Prediction Tools Gauge College Admissions Chances

At online school reviews we try to inform a student of all the way of finding the best college. Here is one students way of finding the right college fit for him.

As a high school senior in New York City, Taylor Florio was set on his future college destination. "I always knew that I wanted to go to a California school," he says. "That was the main factor in what schools I looked at."

Florio's guidance counselor suggested he use a college predictor tool to gauge admissions chances for each school. What he came to realize was that the majority of universities he was considering were deemed reach schools. Now a rising senior at Chapman University in California—one of his reach schools according to the admissions chances calculator—Florio says that, while it did not impact his application decisions, this tool affected many of his friends' college plans.

College Admissions To-Do List

Looking for a good college fit. Then you should start early, even before you finish high school. Many students don't consider the future needs that a college may expect.

Ninth grade can be both exciting and scary. Amid all the newness, remember that high school is not a four-year audition for college. Still, for all those planning to go to college, it will help to know what will be important to colleges three (short!) years from now.

The philosopher Aristotle observed that excellence is not an act but a habit. Your grades reflect what you do day after day and month after month. Take studies seriously. And remember that colleges like people who are successful, whether as students, athletes, musicians, or community volunteers. Colleges also like test scores but, by and large, that is not a big deal for another year or so.
